Tools of the trade for the field botany student!

The new University term is nearly upon us and students enrolling for the University of Reading MSc Plant Diversity and MSc Species Identification and Survey Skills will be taking Dr M’s module on Vegetation Survey and Assessment on Thursdays in the Autumn Term.

EFL Showcase Event: Doing your George Best – “Planning a student-led field trip”

Dr M’s Diary: Day 2 Saturday morning and evening This was a very tough day! Saturday was “Building and running a ‘student-led’ field trip” day and the EFL delegates were divided into 7 teams and all asked to kick off by naming their teams after super heroes.


Enhancing Fieldwork Learning Showcase Event: “Of Androids and Apples!”

Dr M’s diary: Day 1 Friday This was a long day in which Dr M learns that Androids and Apples are not what they might seem at first sight! Alarm clock goes off at 06.00 – it’s the crack of dawn for heaven’s sake!


Fieldwork Learning Showcase Event 2013: Dr M promotes video for plant ID!

Dr M continues his quest for the ultimate plant identification video at the Enhancing Fieldwork Learning Showcase Event 2013 –  at the Field Studies Council in Betws-y-Coed, in the glorious Snowdonia National Park. Dr M’s  presentation on Saturday afternoon reminds the Showcase Event audience that the ability to identify common plants is a key skill needed by graduates entering the conservation, ecology and environmental consultancy sectors.

Kisses from the last night of the BBC Proms!

Dr M’s twin loves, botany and music, find a fitting union at the last night of the BBC Proms tonight at the Royal Albert Hall, London with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Chorus all conducted by the wonderful Marin Alsop
